U.S. Financial Regulatory Week Ahead

Washington is Back to Work, Lots of Federal Reserve Speeches This Week – and Several on Financial Regulation, and OCC Director Gould Talks the Future of Banking

November 17 - 21, 2025

It only took the better part of seven weeks, but Congress finally figured out how to cut a deal to get the federal government back to work.   Looking at the week ahead, there is not a whole lot going on yet as the regulators get back into the swing of things.

Notably, the House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing on the future of deposit insurance.  And over in the Senate, the Agriculture Committee will hold a confirmation hearing for Mike Selig on Thursday to become the next chair of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission, while the Senate Banking Committee holds a confirmation hearing for Travis Hill to be the Chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (which was cancelled a couple of weeks ago due to the shutdown).

Comptroller of the Currency Jonathan Gould will be speaking this week on the future of banking, a possible additional hint of what the Trump Administration is thinking in terms of their pending overall bank regulatory overhaul.

Also this week, there are, by our count, at least 15 speeches by Federal Reserve Board Governors and Federal Reserve Presidents.   Four stand out as important from a regulatory perspective – two from Fed Governor Stephen Miran, one from Fed Governor Michael Barr, and one by Fed Governor Lisa Cook (see highlighted schedule below).

Other than that, we expect it to be a fairly quiet week and a very quiet week the following week as Washington disappears for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Below is the full report of the financial regulatory-related events we could find happening this week. Please let us know if you have any questions.
