U.S. Financial Regulatory Week Ahead
The Federal Government Remains Shut, and the House is Out of Session. But it is IMF/World Bank Week, and the IIF, STA, and Fintech Foundation Host Big Conferences
October 13 - 17, 2025
Next week is going to be a particularly odd week: It is Columbus Day today (Monday - a federal holiday), but the Federal Government is shut down and will likely remain shut down all week, and as a result, there are no Congressional hearings scheduled (indeed, the House is going to remain out of session until the shutdown ends).
However, Washington will also be extremely busy, as it is also hosting the annual International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings, bringing finance ministers from around the world to the city (heads-up: expect lots of motorcades and closed-off streets).
There will be, however, a number of speeches being given by Federal Reserve Board and regional Fed Presidents – including a speech by Fed Chair Jay Powell on the economic outlook. Considering the lack of economic reports from the federal government due to the shutdown, Powell’s speech will be closely watched in advance of the upcoming Fed interest rate meeting. And Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman will be speaking twice this week on regulatory issues.
Arguably, the biggest events this week will be the Institute for International Finance’s annual 2025 members meeting, the Securities Traders Association annual conference, and the Fintech Week 2025 conference. Between the two conferences, several regulators will be speaking.
Below is a listing of all the rest of the major regulatory events in the coming week. Please let us know if you have any questions.
