U.S. Financial Regulatory Week Ahead
We’re Into Week Six of the Government Shutdown, OCC Comptroller Gould is Giving Two Interesting Speeches, and, Beyond That, Nothing Really is Going on in Washington…
November 3 - 7, 2025
First, our apologies: We are a day late getting this out due to personal travel. But you really are not missing anything with the federal government shutdown now into week six. The only two major events/issues we would flag are two speeches being given by Comptroller of the Currency Jonathan Gould on the future regulatory landscape. Gould, along with Fed Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman, is clearly beginning to lay out what is likely to be an ambitious regulatory revamp in the coming year, so it might be wise to listen to what Gould has to say.
And speaking of Vice Chair Bowman, last week it was reported that Bowman is planning to reduce the banking supervision staff by 30 percent by the end of next year. That would bring the supervision and regulation division down to approximately 350 people (it was previously 500+).
Beyond that, there are a number of Fed speeches (nothing unusual here: There are always a number of Fed speeches every week, both from Board members and regional Fed presidents). We would note at the time of this writing, hope seems to be rising a bit that the government shutdown will end by the end of this week. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has told reporters he’s “optimistic.” We hope so!
Below is the full report of all financial regulatory events we could find happening this week. Please let us know if you have any questions.
